We’re BIG believers in the power of intuitive eating!
In fact, the creation of the Snack Spinner was fueled by our oldest daughter’s own journey away from picky eating and into intuitive eating.
It completely transformed the pressure and stress around food for us as a family.
Still—we had some reservations about it at first (and you might, too!) Let’s talk about them:
🍎 The Basics of Intuitive Eating
Intuitive eating builds a healthy relationship with food by teaching kids to follow their physical hunger and fullness cues to determine when, what, and how much to eat.
As lovely as this sounds in theory—you might wonder how this actually works in the trenches of real life:
“If my child just “listens to their body”, they’ll just be asking for chips and fruit snacks for every meal!”
“How do I make sure they’re getting the nutrients they need, if they’re in charge of what they’re eating?”
✨ It’s Freedom—Not a Free-for-All.
The biggest myth about intuitive eating is that it means letting your child eat whatever they want, whenever they want.
But that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
It’s true that kids need space to practice making eating choices on their own—but that doesn’t meaneverything is up to them.
The parent still holds the responsibility of deciding (1) what food goes on the table, (2) when mealtimes are, and (3) where meals take place.
It’s the concept that fuels GoBe: The Division of Responsibilities in Feeding. The parent provides, and the child decides.
This provides plenty of healthy structure, so you can feel good about giving your child freedom from there.
💥 The Snack Spinner Shortcut
The Snack Spinner works wonders for teaching kids to make healthy choices on their own.
(It’s like training wheels for intuitive eating: Just the right amount of freedom to support them as they learn!)
It offers kids age-appropriate freedom to choose what snacks to eat, without sacrificing guidance and input from their parents.
With 5 snack compartments, parents can fill it with a variety of foods that they feel comfortable offering.
From there, kids are able to independently spin their snack selection, choose what looks good to them, and eat as much (or as little) as they need at that moment.
To get started, grab your child a Snack Spinner in their favorite color—and enjoy the freedom (and fun!) It brings.
